SUMDOG COMPETITION

Sumdog holds national competitions weekly with the first one beginning tomorrow, August 31st. We only need 15 students to participate daily to get on the leaderboard. The contest is limited to 1,000 questions, which will be easy for some of my most awesome math students. We have a student in 3rd period who has answered over 2500 questions the first week. I can't wait to see how Oceanway students do.

Make us proud!

First Week in Full Swing

Wow - this week has flown by.  We have been so busy getting into the swing of things, and all my classes are falling right into place. Some of the classes were able to log in to computers, and by next week our goal is that everyone will have logged on to Compass Odyssey and www.Sumdog.com. Both websites should be used at home.  Next week's homework will be in Compass Odyssey and has already been assigned. Students may jump in and get started right away.

Many students say that cannot log into Compass Odyssey at home. Usually it's because they use Google instead of the DCPS link. If the screen doesn't look like this - they are on the wrong page.

Make sure you see Duval County Public Schools on the page. Use the link!

This week's homework is due tomorrow, but most students have turned it in already. They had a questionnaire to complete and get signed by a parent or guardian.

OPEN HOUSE IS TUESDAY, AUGUST 28TH FROM 6-8 PM.
I'm looking forward to meeting all of you.

Go Bucs!

Welcome to 7th Grade

I hope everyone had a fun and relaxing summer. I am so excited to begin the 2012-13 school year. We have an exciting new program at Oceanway called Accelerated Math. Parents will receive daily updates on student progress, and I will be able to monitor how students are doing each and every day in math. Look for those reports, and you will never have to wonder how your child is doing in math.

I will also be implementing Avid strategies in all my classes this year. Avid is a college readiness program that is designed to increase learning and performance. Wether or not your child is in my Avid classes they will benefit from the Avid methods of organization, notetaking, and inquiry based learning.
